How to register to vote or change your registration

If you did not vote in the November 2022 General Election, your voter registration will be canceled — unless you contact our office. If your registration is canceled, you will need to re-register before voting in 2024. You also must re-register if you are changing your name, address or political affiliation.

Qualifications

To register to vote, you must meet the following qualifications:

Identity verification

To verify your identity, you can present a valid Wyoming driver’s license.

If you do not have a Wyoming license, you must provide the last four digits of your Social Security number and the following documentation:

Any one of the following:

  • U.S. passport;
  • Out-of-state driver’s license or ID card;
  • Tribal ID from any federally recognized tribe;
  • ID issued by local, state or federal agency;
  • Photo ID card issued by a Wyoming college or public school;
  • U.S. military card or an ID card issued to a dependent of a military member.

or any two of the following:

  • Certificate of U.S. citizenship or naturalization;
  • U.S. military draft record;
  • Social Security card;
  • Voter registration card from another state or county;
  • Certificate of birth abroad from the Department of State;
  • Original or certified copy of birth certificate bearing an official seal; or
  • Any other form of ID issued by an official U.S. or state agency.

Where to register

Except for the 14 days leading up to Election Day, you can register to vote or make changes to your registration (such as your address or party affiliation) in Cody, Powell or Meeteetse:

    • Park County Elections Office: 1002 Sheridan Ave., Cody 307-527-8620
    • Powell City Hall: 270 N. Clark St., Powell 307-754-5106
    • Meeteetse Town Hall: 910 Park Ave., Meeteetse 307-868-2278

Less than 15 days before the election, you may register at the Elections Office or change your registration, but you must cast your vote at that time (vote early). Bring your ID. You may also register and vote at your polling place on Election Day. You may need to wait in line so please allow extra time and bring your ID.

Registering by mail

If you can’t register in person, you can register by mail by following these steps.

    • Print out and complete a Wyoming voter registration application.
    • Unless you’re an active member of the military or an overseas citizen, you must sign the application in front of a notary public (remember to bring photo ID or the documents listed above).
    • Send the completed and notarized form to Park County Elections, 1002 Sheridan Ave., Cody, WY 82414, along with a copy of the ID you showed the notary.

Be aware that, under federal law, voters who register by mail must present photo ID before voting for the first time. Wyoming also has a new voter ID law that requires voters to show ID when voting in person.

If you have neither a valid Wyoming driver’s license nor a Social Security number, please contact the Elections Office.

Changing parties/updating your registration

If you need to update your name or address, or if you want to change your political affiliation, you must follow the same process as when you first registered. That means presenting your ID at the courthouse, Powell City Hall or Meeteetse Town Hall (or, if making the change by mail, to a notary).

A person can update or change their party affiliation for a primary election no later than the day before candidate filing begins. The candidate filing period begins ninety-six (96) days before the primary election. The last day to change or declare a party affiliation prior to the primary election is May 15, 2024. After the primary election but no later than 14 days before the general election voters can change their party affiliation. Voters also have the option to change their party affiliation at their polling place on the day of the general election or when requesting an absentee ballot.
