2025 License Plate Series
Wyoming issues new plates on all vehicles every eight years including the bucking horse “Steamboat” logo per Wyoming Statute. New plates will be issued upon registration or renewal for any vehicle with a 2026 expiration date.
Customers who already have reserve low plate numbers will have the whole year of 2026 to renew their reserved plates. If the plates are not renewed by Dec. 31, 2026 the reserve number will be forfeited.
Park County reserve plate numbers:
Passenger: 1 – 3000
Truck: 1 – 2000
MPV: 1 – 100
Motorcycle: 1 – 100
**Unclaimed reserve numbers will be available first come, first serve basis as of January 1, 2027.**
What does the plate look like?
The 2025 series plate has a design taken from the State of Wyoming flag.
Who came up with the design?
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) determines the plate design with the help of a committee.
Can I get them now?
Yes, if you pay additional months to push your expiration date forward into 2026, you could receive the plate now.
Can I just keep the old series plate on my vehicle?
No, a vehicle registration that expires in 2026 must display the new series plate to be valid. Per W.S. 31-2-213(b)
Do they cost extra?
No, there is no additional cost when renewing to receive the new plate.
Will I get my same number?
If your current license plate is in the range of reserved numbers, it will be held until December 31, 2026 for you to pick up.
Reserved numbers are:
Passenger: 1-3000
Truck: 1-2000
MPV: 1-100
Motorcycle: 1-100
WYDOT will contact all specialty plate customers three to six months prior to their plate’s expiration, reminding them to reapply for the specialty plate. The same fees are required. If you were not contacted by WYDOT, you can reapply online or call 307-777-4709. Most specialty plate customers who reapply in 2025 will have the option to keep their existing plate with some exceptions. (National Guard plate numbers are reassigned based on rank and date of rank; some Veteran Plate numbers with a final alpha.)
Will the UW plates be different?
Yes, WYDOT has released the new design and can be seen on their website along with the application.
Will the Wildlife Conservation plates be different?
Yes, WYDOT has released the new design and can be seen on their website along with the application.
What if I have a personalized plate?
If you have a personalized or other specialty plate, you will receive a postcard from WYDOT 3 – 4 months before renewal with instructions on how and when to re-apply for your plate. If you additional questions please call 307-777-4709, or email mvsplates@wyo.gov.
What if I have a permanent trailer plate?
The design on the permanent trailer plate will not change, so no action is necessary.
